Introduction / History

Slovenians are a South Slavic people, and they speak Slovenian which is a South Slavic language. There are many spoken dialects. Slovenia was a part of the former Yugoslavia until the early 1990s.

What Are Their Lives Like?

In Slovenia there is a shortage of housing and homes are small. Most get married in their twenties and about half the marriages end in divorce. Slovenes love to eat bread and potatoes. Family life is important to the Slovene though young people are now leaving the home and some in the families are moving to the cities and towns. They like tidiness.

Slovenes can change when they are with others to suit the person they are talking to. They like eye contact when greeting people.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Many of the Slovene are classed as Catholics but many of them are secular; it is a very secular country. There are evangelical Lutherans living near the border with Hungary.

What Are Their Needs?

Slovenes need the spiritual hunger it takes to move from religion to a relationship with Jesus Christ.

On a physical level, they need more housing.

Prayer Points

Pray that God will show ways to get the Slovenes to want to learn about the gospel.
Pray that they will find secularism does not work and that they will turn to Jesus Christ.
Pray that the evangelicals in Slovenia will help lead the others to salvation as well.
Pray for spiritual hunger.
