Introduction / History

Ndogos migrated from what is today the Central African Republic around the 10th century AD. As they migrated, they came into conflict with the Azande, who forced the Ndogo further north into their present homeland in South Sudan, west of Wau. Some live in the Democratic Republic of Congo.Ndogo culture and way of life are now threatened since the civil war in 1986 caused the migration of many of them into towns like Wau, Juba, and Khartoum. The urban population has risen from 20-25% (before 1986) to around 70%. It is estimated that 30% of the population has left their farmlands for the forests since the civil war.Ndogo has become a prestigious language. Its trade language status and its general use have been encouraged by the early translation work of the Roman Catholic Church. Education in the Ndogo language was also made possible by this work.

The Ndogo were originally agriculturalists. They are hard workers and value self-sufficiency. Apart from farming, they value skilled labor tasks such as carpentry and blacksmithing.

A little over half identify as Christian. There is a strong element of traditional religion in their spiritual worldview.


What Are Their Needs?

Ngodos have many gospel resources and a complete New Testament. They need the spiritual desire for truth and righteousness.
