The Trukese speak Chuukese, which is the same name. They are the dominant group in the Caroline Islands in Micronesia. Half of Micronesia’s population is Trukese. Smaller numbers of them live on Guam and the United States.
Fishing is a vital means of earning a living; it is also a crucial food source on Truk. They also farm and build boats. Jobs are limited on the islands. Most goods must be imported, making them very expensive.
Before a man can marry, he must prove he is competent in fishing, farming, and boatbuilding. He must also be able to build a house for a new family.
Most are Christian, either Roman Catholic or Protestant. They also have traditional beliefs, especially in spirit possession. The spirits typically speak through women to exhort people to get along during times of conflict.
Though they are overwhelmingly Christian, the Trukese Church desperately needs revival. There is a major problem with nominalism.
Pray for revival fire to consume Trukese families and churches, drawing them into a close relationship with the Lord of lords.
Pray for the Lord to show them creative and useful ways to earn a living. Work opportunities are limited on the Micronesian Islands.
Pray for the Lord to raise hundreds of Trukese men and women who will disciple others in the ways of Jesus Christ.
