The Konglang are a small ethnic minority in northern Laos, associated with the diverse Tai-related peoples of the region. Oral traditions indicate ancestral links to southern China before migration into present-day Laos. Over time, they have interacted closely with neighboring ethnic groups while retaining aspects of their distinct identity. The Konglang speak the Oy language.
Most Konglang live in rural villages and depend on farming, fishing, and small-scale livestock raising. Family life is centered on cooperation between generations, with elders respected for their wisdom. Community celebrations include New Year festivities, birth ceremonies, and house-building rituals. Rice is the dietary staple, often accompanied by vegetables, fish, and locally gathered foods.
Traditional animistic beliefs remain influential in Konglang life. Many Konglang honor ancestral spirits and seek spiritual protection through rituals connected to family, agriculture, and community life. Their faith is in the spirit world, not Jesus Christ.
Greater access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities would strengthen village life. Clear opportunities to hear and understand the gospel in culturally meaningful ways would help individuals encounter Christ. Existing believers would benefit from discipleship and encouragement to share their faith with others.
Pray for improved health, education, and livelihoods in Konglang communities.
Pray that families will experience God's peace and blessing.
Pray and ask for the Holy Spirit to draw the Konglang to Jesus Christ and raise up faithful local believers who will become part of God's mission force among the unreached of Laos.
Pray for the hearts of pioneer workers to be stirred to reach these people with the gospel, make disciples, and plant churches.
Pray for the ongoing translation work and wide distribution of the scriptures, discipleship material, and outreach resources in the Oy language.
