The Boria people are a small community found in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. In the late nineteenth century, the writer William Crooke described them as a "tribe of village servants and cultivators," highlighting their historical connection to agricultural work and village society. Their background is closely tied to the rural social structure of northern India, where land, labor, and community relationships have long shaped daily life.
The lives of the Boria people are largely connected to agriculture and village-based livelihoods. Some work as laborers for Brahmin or Bania landowners, while others cultivate land that they own. Daily routines likely revolve around farming responsibilities, household work, seasonal labor, and participation in village community life.
Family structure follows patterns common in many traditional communities of the region. Extended families are valued, and inheritance is generally passed to sons. Household relationships, kinship ties, and local customs play an important role in shaping identity, social responsibility, and economic life.
The Boria people practice Hinduism. Their religious life reflects the broad diversity of Hindu traditions found across South Asia. At the popular level, worship includes devotion to deities of the Hindu pantheon through temple visits, offerings, prayers, flowers, incense, and rituals intended to obtain protection, blessing, or spiritual benefit.
Like many Hindu communities, they participate in major religious festivals such as Holi, Diwali, Navratri, and Rama Navami. Their beliefs and religious practices are woven into family customs, community celebrations, and everyday expressions of spiritual identity.
The Boria people need opportunities to hear and understand the gospel of Jesus Christ in ways that are accessible within their language and cultural setting. They need to encounter the loving Creator God who offers forgiveness, new identity, and life through His Son.
Practical needs are also significant. Communities dependent on agriculture and labor may face challenges related to economic security, education, healthcare, and community development. Access to quality schooling, medical care, clean water, and sustainable livelihoods can strengthen families alongside compassionate gospel witness.
Pray that the Boria people will be adopted through the People Group Adoption program so that ongoing prayer, faithful partnership, and future gospel engagement will reach their communities.
Pray that Christians will lovingly and boldly reach out to the Boria people, and that Holy Spirit–led workers will clearly communicate the message of Jesus Christ.
Pray that a deep spiritual hunger will awaken among the Boria people, leading many to seek and follow Jesus Christ no matter what the cost, including community leaders and family heads.
Pray for the physical needs of the Boria people, including access to healthcare, schools, clean water, agricultural support, and practical resources for families.
